Kentucky’s Jody Meeks Drops 54 on Tennessee

January 14, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Kentucky’s Jody Meeks broke Dan Issel scoring record by dropping 54 points on Tennessee at Tennessee. He  made 10 three pointers in the game, which contributed  to his large scoring total of 54 point.  Meeks has be a player waiting for potential to happen, so perhaps now is the time for meeks to shine. It has to go down as one of the great performances by a single player during this season, Stephen Curry not withstanding.

East Tennessee Women’s Basketball Team Made It To The Big Dance

July 21, 2008 · 1 Comment

While attending East Tennessee State University from 1972- 1976, I felt it was nothing more than a college in the Tri-Cities area of Tennessee, in Johnson City, nestled in the hills of the Appalachian Mountains. I did not think much of the environment. Probably I did not appreciate it as much as I should. But when I look back on the experience it was a unique one. The landscapes, the fresh mountain air all created an inviting air that I now look back on the experience with fondness.

When I attended East Tennessee State I had intentions of trying out for the Basketball team as a walk on. But it was merely a passing dream that I did not pursue. I majored in Journalism, but did not take advantage of the experience as a Journalist.

However I am associated in news papering as an advertising account executive for the last 28 years. I am an alumnus of East Tennessee State University and when March rolls around I manage to catch a game of two, particularly around conference tournament time and manage to see a game or two of the Men’s Bucs team who are usually right in the thick of the title hunt for the conference tournament championships.

This year, I did not keep up with the progress. It was only yesterday, when I opened my mailbox and found an alumni newsletter and on the cover was the East Tennessee State Women’s Basketball team, who were not only the Atlantic Sun tournament champions, but first time participants in the Women’s NCAA Basketball Championship Tournament. Being a proud Alumni of East Tennessee State University, I thought they deserved a shout out for their accomplishment.

The Lady Bucs went 21-12, and made it to the NCAA Championship what a terrific accomplishment. It was their first trip to the Big Dance. Perhaps there will be many more. Congratulations and ,Go Bucs! (Photo From ETSU Alumni Magazine- Spring Edition)
